Junior Membership

Please note that these benefits apply to members of SCL UK only, and not to members of our sister Societies. More information, including full details about the Society, are available on our about page.

Meetings & Lectures

You have access to regular meetings in many parts of the UK and Ireland. See our events page for upcoming events.

Papers

The Society publishes a number of papers each year - see our papers page for the full list to date. Some are published in hard copy, some are only published in electronic format: all are put on the website. Junior members receive digital copies by email. In addition, members may download all online papers free of charge, while there is a charge for non-members.

Newsletter

All members receive it by email. See our newsletters page for archived newsletters.

SCL Directory

You will be listed in our annual Membership Directory, unless you choose to opt out. All Junior members will receive a pdf copy of the directory by email only.

Additionally, all members have access to a searchable online database of those members who have agreed for their data to be visible to other members. If you are logged in as a member you can find this database here.

Library

The Construction Law library that used to be housed at the Old Watch House at King' College, London has now been merged with the Maughan library in Chancery Lane. Any SCL member who wishes to use the Maughan library should complete the application form. For further details about the Maughan library please contact Sue Hart.

Social events

There is an AGM held in May every year, followed by our annual dinner. There are also regional lunches with a speaker, to which members and their guests are welcome. In addition refreshments are served, either before or after a number of meetings.

Discounts

A number of periodicals and conferences are available to members at reduced rates.

Fees

The full year subscription for Junior membership is £50. There is also an additional initial joining fee of £65.

For those joining between July and October there is a reduced subscription fee which covers the remainder of the calendar year. Those joining in November and December pay the full fee but are given membership to the end of the next calendar year.

Application procedure

As part of your application, you will need to pay the joining fee and first year's subscription in advance. They will both be refunded in full in the unlikely event that your application is rejected. We much prefer online application, which can be made here. If you already have a user account on this website, please log in before completing the application.

If you wish to apply by post, and pay by cheque, please click here to download the application form.

Please note that you will not have access to member privileges such as free downloading of papers until your membership has been approved. This may take up to two weeks from the date of application.

If you have any further questions please email or telephone our Adminstrator.
