Council Election 2026

Have you ever considered standing for election to join Council? The 2026 election provides a fantastic opportunity to join a diverse, inclusive, and progressive Team. It is also an exceptionally valuable time to stand for election because we have  5 vacancies for Ordinary Members of Council.

Council’s work embraces an array of activities: organising talks, social events,  educational seminars and conferences; the publication of papers in the SCL Journal; the Mentoring Scheme; liaising with universities; collaborating with likeminded institutions such as CIArb, TECSA and TECBAR, and other SCLs around the world; awarding the Hudson Prize and the Frances Paterson Scholarship; and much more. We share responsibilities between us in sub-committees and we happily need new talent and fresh thinking. The Council meets on a monthly basis. Please note that Council Members may need to share personal details with our banking and other regulatory bodies.

If you would like to be a candidate:

  1. You must be a paid-up Member of the Society;
  2. You must be nominated and seconded by paid-up Members of the Society;
  3. Your application to be a candidate must include the following information:
    (a) Your name and profession;
    (b) Your work/practice address;
    (c) The names of your proposer and seconder; and
    (d) An election statement (not exceeding 100 words).
  4. At the AGM on 20 May 2026, you will be invited to present your election statement.

The deadline for receiving the above is Friday 17 April 2026. Please send your application by email to admin@scl.org.uk and copied to webmaster@scl.org.uk.

The electronic anonymous election (in which all paid-up Members are entitled and encouraged to vote) will take place between 22 April and 20 May 2026.

If you have any questions about Council or the election, please get in touch.
