A one day construction law conference organized by Dr Alfons Huber, President of the European Society of Construction Law, will be taking place at the Renaissance Penta Vienna Hotel on Friday 5 October 2001.
The programme for the day will include the following presentations:-
1. Key note address by Dr Erhard Busek, former Vice Chancellor of Austria, on the prospects and implications of enlargement of the EU.
2. Preparing for EU membership in the field of law, especially construction law, by speakers from the Czech Republic, Hungary and Slovakia.
3. Current developments in Austria, the ON rule and the "arbitration department" of the Austrian Standards Institute, by Dr Huber.
4. Reports and panel discussion about current developments in adjudication, mediation and arbitration in the UK, Germany, France and Italy, with the panel comprising Victoria Russell, Professor Wolfgang Heiermann, Professor Philippe Malinvaud and Mauro Rubino-Sammartano.
5. Status quo of the new EU directive on public procurement and FIEC's position on legislation relating to public procurement, by Domenico Campogrande, rapporteur of the Economic and Legal Commission of FIEC.
6. Current developments in procurement law, by Dr Holoubek of the Vienna University of Economic and Business Administration.
The conference languages will be German and English; Professor Malinvaud's contribution will be translated from French into English.
The cost of attending the conference, including lunch on the day and a drinks party afterwards, is 255 euros. The Renaissance Penta Vienna Hotel is offering special room rates for those attending the conference.

Victoria Russell is SCL's representative on the Users Committee of the TCC. The next Users Committee meeting will be taking place on Wednesday 10th October; the agenda will include the following:-

(b) New proposed Arbitration CPR P.D
(c) New Commercial Court
2. TCC Recorders; general pooling of resources
3. Lines of communication between TCC Courts and Users Groups/Committees
4. Benchmark Costs
5. State of the TCC List

Leaflets have already been sent out calling for entries for this year's SCL Hudson Prize. The closing date for entries is 31st December 2001 and the prizes include £1,500 first and £750 second prize. For those new to the Society and/or to the WWW our web site is a constant source of new information. Items which have arrived too late to be published in a Newsletter, or details of meetings which have been arranged after the seasonal Diary has gone to print, will be posted on the website. It contains details of our future programme and contact details for university book grants.
