With the SCL's agreement, the Centre now wishes to dispose of about 300 bound volumes of the following official Law Report series (all complete series, unless otherwise noted):

LR Adm & Eccl
LR CCR
Ch (to 2000)
LR CP
LR Exch
LR Exch Div
LR PC App
Fam (to 2000)
P
LR P & D

All are in first-class condition and have been bound in the official style by the Incorporated Council of Law Reporting.

Contact Linda Jones at the Centre on 020-7848 2685 or via e-mail to linda.jones@kcl.ac.uk for further details or to inspect.

Bids for all or part to be with Linda Jones by 28 February. Bids for parts are welcome, but the absolute right is reserved to dispose of them as a whole or in larger lots if this appears to be more advantageous. All reasonable offers will be seriously considered. Buyers collect.

Ethics Group - meeting in London Monday 14th March

An open meeting will be held on Monday 14th March at the National Liberal Club in London, at 6.15pm, when Neill Stansbury will talk on 'Unethical behaviour and criminal acts'. He will explain how unethical behaviour on construction contracts may well constitute criminal behaviour, and present the Transparency International's Anti-Corruption Code for individuals in the construction and engineering industry. The Anti-Corruption Code is being published by the Society as a discussion paper, and will be made available at the meeting. The meeting will be chaired by Professor John Uff QC CBE. All members and their guests are very welcome.

National Representatives

The UK Society of Construction Law is looking to expand its membership and broaden its base with like-minded people throughout the world. During January and February 2005, we are seeking volunteers to take on the role of National Representative representing the UKSCL overseas.

The National Representatives will be the contact points for information for visiting SCL members and for those interested in the Society in their countries and will be encouraged to provide short articles for our newsletter and website addressing construction law issues and opportunities within the country which they represent.

The National Representative must be a member of the UKSCL and be resident within the country which they represent. Virtual Membership of UKSCL costs £25 joining fee plus £15.00 per annum, which entitles the member to download papers from the UKSCL website and receive the regular newsletter. The term of the National Representative will be one year, although this may be renewed by agreement.

Anyone interested in volunteering to be a National Representative is asked to put forward their CV with a brief synopsis of how they see the role developing within their country. This should be forwarded to Jackie Morris at the address below or emailed to her at admin@scl.org.uk by 1st March 2005.

There will be only one National Representative per country. If more than one member applies, a decision will be made by Council as to whom should be appointed to the post for the first year. Successful appointments will be notified on 15th March 2005.

The UKSCL directory and website will contain the National Representatives contact details and a new section of the website will be developed on a country basis which will include articles as submitted by the National Representative or any other UKSCL member.

Membership and SCL logo clarification following recent queries

All members are reminded that:

1 Membership of the Society does not carry a qualification as such, however SCL Membership may be mentioned on a CV.
2 Members who have a web site can create a link to the SCL web site but the Society will only link to non-commercial organisations from its own web site (www.scl.org.uk).
3 Membership of the Society does not allow members to use the SCL logo as part of their individual or corporate promotional material.
4 The SCL logo can be used for promotional material involving events (such as conferences) in which SCL is a key partner. However permission to use the logo must always be requested first.

Renewal of Membership 2005

Many of you have already renewed your subscriptions for 2005. Thank you for your prompt payment!

For those of you who have not yet paid, a reminder to do so as soon as possible please. Prompt payment means we do not have to issue reminders, an additional expense which the Society is keen to avoid. If you did not receive your invoice, or have mislaid it, please ask admin to email a copy to you.

If you do not intend to renew your membership this year, please let Admin know so that your name can be taken off the membership list.

SCL Website

If you have not yet done so, take a look at the new website which has been completely redesigned to make it easier to use. Members can now log in from the homepage, and stay logged in throughout the site until they log out. When you log in you will see a new navigation link to 'Members' which is where you can update your contact details, email subscriptions and data protection info - as well as search for information about other SCL members who have agreed for their data to be accessible to other members on the website (currently over 500 members). In due course, some new facilities will be added for members.

If you have any questions, problems or suggestions, please contact our webmaster, Edward Peters, at Webmaster

Contributions invited from Members

What construction law related topic would you like to see presented as a talk? Please email your suggestions to Jackie Morris on admin@scl.org.uk and we will do our best to organise a talk in your area.

You are also invited to contribute to the newsletter. If you have an item related to construction law that you feel would be of interest to others, then please email text to Jackie Morris at admin@scl.org.uk.
