Would you like to stand for Council?

As you all know, the Society's AGM is being held on Wednesday 23 May.

Under the terms of the Society's Constitution, five members of Council must stand down at the AGM each year. Unless they wish to retire, they are eligible to stand for re-election.

This year, John Redmond and Gareth Parry have both, sadly decided that they wish to retire from Council, owing to their ever increasing business commitments. Richard Bayfield, Anthony Elven and Jim Pragnell will be standing down at the AGM but [all three] will be seeking re-election.

There are therefore at least two vacancies on Council. Would you like to stand? We would like to encourage as many people as possible to stand for election and are keen to encourage strong regional representation on Council as well as some younger members. If you are interested, please send our administrative officer, Jackie Morris, a letter or e-mail confirming your willingness to stand and letting her have brief details about yourself (no more than six lines please!), together with the name of a proposer and seconder, both of whom should be members of the Society.

Jackie Morris' address is 67 Newbury Street, Wantage, Oxfordshire OX12 8DJ; her e-mail address is admin@scl.org.uk

There are normally nine Council meetings a year; they are usually held on Monday evenings at Fenwick Elliott's offices in the Strand. In addition, there is an annual Milestone Review Meeting. The Society's business is organised by a number of sub-committees.

There are 16 Members of Council altogether; the current Members are listed at the back of the Members Directory and the spring/summer 2001 diary of events and any would be delighted to tell you more about being on Council and what that entails. Alternatively, ring the Chairman, Victoria Russell, for an informal chat - (020) 7956-9354.
